Summary

My name is Rutger Stegenga and I’m an art director with more than 12 years of experience in the game industry.
I've worked in many areas of game development, including: 3d modelling, texturing, lighting, materials, shaders and particles. Besides my artistic skills I also have a strong technical knowledge of game engines.

I am an inspirational leader and I leave no room for ego. I value working together as a team and strive to give every team member the room to take ownership in the development process in order to make the best game possible. I am critical and often reflect on the development process; I constantly evaluate how the process can be improved and what new techniques can be learned to enhance the quality and efficiency of the art pipeline.
Additionally, with my years of hands-on experience I can take into consideration the feasibility and cost of implementation for any changes, while also evaluating how these affect the overall look and feel of the game.

Finally, as art director I put a lot of effort into managing and coaching the art department. I also try to ensure the team is constantly communicating with themselves and other departments through artistic and technical specifications such as art documentation, style guides and wikis.
